A Typical Day at Portland Tillamook Preschool

Our daily program varies and no two days will ever be exactly alike. Our schedule is flexible; however, we typically maintain the same order of events to allow children the security of knowing what to expect next.

Every day at Tillamook includes these important elements:

CIRCLE TIME

As a community, we begin and end each day in song, greeting each child by name and discussing topics important to the group.

ART

Children are encouraged to express their creativity through an optional daily art activity. Painting easels, a writing station, chalkboard and play dough are always available, too.

FREE PLAY

Children can flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces as they wish, choosing from a wide variety of child-led, play-based activities.

SNACK TIME

A healthy, nut-free vegetarian snack is available each day. Children can choose when to join the snack table and what they wish to eat from the selections.

8:30

Parent helpers arrive and set up for the day's activities. (The alternate parent helper arrives at 8:45.)

9:00

Children arrive and select a work job with their parent or carpool driver.

9:10ish

Opening circle time with Teacher Anette. Parents may choose to stay for circle if desired.

9:20ish

Children flow into choice time. Snack, art projects, outdoor or gym play, and indoor creative play areas are all available. Last call for snack is around 11:00.

11:30

Children put on shoes and begin clean up around 11:45.

Noonish

Group time on carpet, followed by closing circle, story and closing activities in the reading room.

12:30

Children are dismissed to parent or carpool driver. Parent helpers stay to clean up and debrief with Anette.
